Target Audience
Family Physicians, Specialists, Physician Assistants, Optometrists, Pharmacists, IMGs, Nurse Educators/Practitioners, Dieticians, and Residents.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this learning activity the learners will be able to:
- Review recent trends in the evolution and burden of the global diabetes epidemic.
- Understand the evidence behind the growing range of therapies proven to reduce cardiovascular and renal outcomes, and how best to use these therapies.
- Leverage information available from flash or continuous glucose monitors to help patients improve well-being and glycemic control through dietary and activity changes.
- Appreciate the impact of COVID-19 on diabetes and diabetes care.
- Explore basic approaches to managing type 1 diabetes with closed-loop insulin infusion pumps. (i.e. the “artificial pancreas”)
- Use evidence-based principles to help choose the first or second glucose-lowering therapy to prescribe.
