At the end of this learning activity, the learners will be able to:
1) Formulate an approach to the assessment of mental health needs of specific patient populations.
2) Develop a comprehensive treatment plan using a biopsychosocial care model, which comprises of a variety of therapeutic strategies, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.
3) Be familiar with the latest practice guidelines specific to the clinical management of mental health concerns throughout the lifespan.
4) Provide patients with local, and online resources specific to mental health concerns.
5) Know when to refer for a specialty or tertiary care assessment.
6) Identify the occupational hazards inherent in health care professions, and ways to minimize risk and access help.
7) Appreciate that the provision of excellent mental health care requires a multidisciplinary effort, whenever possible.
